An open deck, a CDL driver and dispatch on the other end. Right-sized capacity for freight that does not need a full-size trailer.
Hotshot trucking uses a heavy-duty pickup or similar truck pulling a gooseneck or bumper-pull flatbed. It fills the gap between LTL and a full truckload: one machine, one pallet or several, picked up quickly and delivered direct.
It suits freight that is too heavy, long or awkward for a van but does not justify a 48 ft trailer.
| Spec | Typical hotshot flatbed | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Deck length | 30 to 45 ft | Longer pieces may need a different trailer or a permit |
| Deck width | 8 ft 6 in legal maximum | Anything wider is overwide and needs planning |
| Load height | 13 ft 6 in legal in most states | Deck height plus cargo; tall equipment is the usual problem |
| Securement | Chains, straps, edge protection, tarps | Rated to FMCSA cargo securement rules |
Specific deck length and axle configuration are confirmed by dispatch for your load.
Send pickup, delivery, weight and dimensions. Dispatch confirms equipment and next steps.
